You know, one of the most critical aspects or components of making sure that you’re having a mindset that is set towards building wealth for yourself is making sure that you are open minded. The reality is that you never know where your next idea is going to come from, your next contact or your next income stream. One of the things that really separates people who just mediocre success from those who have extraordinary success is open mindedness. A lot of times those who just have that mediocre level of success may feel that they already know everything and they may feel this for one of a number of many reasons.

Some people feel that they know more than they think they know because they may have a degree or several degrees or maybe they have a certain number of years of experience in one particular field and they feel like that experience or that knowledge translates into everything, and it does not. I can remember an incident that happened to me not too long ago. This is a story I tell and that I even tell in the Multimillion Dollar Mindset product about an event that I was working.

A good friend of mine, Craig Duswalt, seven figure earner, the rock star marketing guy, I was at one of his events and I was working a booth from two other good friends of mine, Cheri Tree and Kecia Wimmer, both multimillionaires in their business. They own a company called Quattro University that does amazing things for entrepreneurs in helping them to increase their income and give them all the skills and training that can really multiply their success.

So I was working this booth for Quattro and just telling people that came by about some of the things that Quattro does for people’s business and this guy came up and he asked me what I was there for or what business I was promoting. So I told him about my friends’ business and he was very quick to tell me, he actually cut me off when I was talking, and he told me that “For something like this, I wouldn’t be one of the students. I should actually be one of the teachers.”

Now, I’m looking at this guy and he hands me this really raggedy business card and that and several other things about the way that he spoke let me know very quickly that he was someone that had only gotten to a very mediocre level of success. But his head was so full of himself and what he thought that he knew that he could not be open minded to receive information from anyone else. So once again, he probably missed out on an amazing opportunity to grow and to grow his business and to grow his bottom line.

You know, one of my other mentors, James Malinchak, always says that you can either feed your ego or you can feed your bank account but you can’t do both at one time. My tip for you right now is that if you’re only looking to build wealth just make sure that you’re staying open minded. You never know where your next contact is going to come from. You never know where your next idea is going to come from. I have a separate income stream from this that I was able to build with some very key individuals and I didn’t even know any of those people a little bit less than a year before putting that product together.

Not only that, but when I met those people I had no idea that I was even going to put that product together, but being open minded and just being a clearing for whatever opportunities, people, contact information was going to come into my life made me be able to pull that particular idea together and be able to become successful with it. So once again, make sure that you’re being open minded and that you’re not too quick to judge people or opportunities because you never know where your next bit of information, inspiration or a great contact can come from.

The restaurant business is cut throat. Restaurants have a high failure rate. Often times their closures are not even noticed by members of the community, because many people did not even know they were open for business in the first place. Even if a restaurant has terrific food, a great atmosphere and fantastic service the owner cannot just sit back and wait for customers to come. Restauranteurs must be active with their promotions especially within the first year after opening. There are several ways to accomplish this goal.

1. Create a custom printed door hanger that can be distributed to the households and businesses nearby. Door hangers are great for getting attention because they are placed on the entrance most people use to enter the home or building. The door hanger can include highlighted items of the menu, a map to help find the location, and even a coupon to give people a reason to try the restaurant. Door hangers are a cost effective way to distribute information. There are companies that offer door hanger delivery services, or an employee can take a couple afternoons to walk the area and distribute the door hangers.

2. Have a menu created for customers to read at home. Most restaurants have a menu for diners to view while seated in the restaurant, but the diners can’t take the leather or vinyl bound menu home. Restaurants should always have a professionally printed menu for their customers to take home with them. Many people like to review menus in the convenience of their own location before deciding upon where their next meal will be. It’s also very beneficial if a restaurant wants to include take-out and delivery services in their offerings. A menu should always be included with any take out or delivery meal. This raises the possibility of that customer returning again.

3. Postcards are a terrific way to announce a restaurant grand opening or remind residents and businesses in the area that the restaurant is nearby. A few ideas for a postcard messages include a coupon, a message about a special event, the announcement of a new chef, and a remodeled businesses. Mailing lists can be obtained by zip code and can the postcards can be mailed directly to the best potential customers.

It is important for a restaurant to continually strive to provide an atmosphere conducive to bringing in both repeat customers and adding a new customer base. Having a few promotional pieces in place, such as a door hanger, menus for customers to take home or back to the office, and postcards can have a positive effect on the bottom line.

Ever find yourself slipping into a negative routine with the things you say? Let me give you an example or two; while talking with your supervisor about your annual sales targets he asks, “Why are you falling short of your sales goal?” This question puts you in a naturally defensive state of mind. Immediately your mind searches for answers, and because your mind naturally accepted the question defensively; your responses will be defensive and come off as excuses. Portraying you in a defensive posture and possibly making your lower than desired sales numbers look even worse than previously thought. The words we use are more powerful than we can imagine. There is power in words that we use. Most people greet each other with words that have no power or energy. Think of the last time you heard someone else (or even yourself) respond to a greeting of “How are you?” with “Oh, I’m ok, or so-so,” “Hanging in there,” “I’m surviving,” and my favorite, “Not to bad.” Sadly, the response we receive to these type of answers, is much the same, “Me too,” or “Hang in there,” “It can only get better.”

Our mind is a curious and ever evolving part of our body, and the most important part of our inner thoughts, because it has a dynamic effect on our external actions. While there have been countless thousands of research studies conducted on our brains, the human brain remains one of life’s biggest mysteries. Interestingly, nearly every study conducted on cognitive brain functions agree that each individual has the power to alter ones internal wiring, which allows us to then program our actions. Consequently, the words we CHOOSE have a direct and profound impact on our actions. Regardless if they are spoken or just thoughts, the power of words has a measurable effect on our performance. Renowned cognitive researcher Dr. Maxwell Maltz conducted an out of the ordinary study at UCLA. Dr. Maltz assembled the #1 ranked UCLA men’s basketball team during their fall training and equally divided the team, he did this study three times and mixed the teams each time, the results were the same. Dr. Maltz had half of the team in the gym shooting 100′s of free throws and the other half sitting in a darkened room visualizing themselves shooting free throws and making each shoot. After several days of practice, Maltz staged a contest between the two teams. The players who had visualized themselves making free throws did much better than those who had actually practiced making free throws. Such mental training sends neuromuscular signals that can lead to a stronger, more effective performance during the actual event. Control your input by not only visualizing your goals, but also imagining exactly how your body feels when you achieve your goal. The mind does not know the difference between physical and mental practice. Visualization is the process that allows you to see your desired results in your mind. Once you can see it in your mind, you’ll be closer to achieving it in your life.

You are what you think, so control your input! “We become what we think about.”- Earl Nightingale

Our words and thoughts tell the truth. Ask yourself, “Do my words reflect a commitment to being joyful, helping others, creating win-wins, keeping things in perspective, seizing the moment, continuously learning and embracing change” Whether the result becomes apparent sooner of later, we cannot speak words of failure and defeat and expect a life of success and victory. Start today by planting seeds of success by thinking and visualizing your next steps to overcome the obstacles of life or sales targets. I suggest these three instruments for orchestrating your thoughts and words;

1. Talk yourself up!
2. Speak with strength.
3. Ask the right questions.

Did you know that you talk more to yourself than anyone else in the world? In the face of challenging situations (and we all have our fair share), the words you choose for that conversation with yourself will directly impact how long you will find yourself in those situations. Use your words to change your situation, not to describe it. The next time you have a conversation with your supervisor; anticipate what he will ask, you know your business better than anyone. And visualize the conversation in positive terms. Build positive mental connections, personal strength and commitment by using these strength builders;

• I can
• I will
• Commit
• Expect the best
• I will make time
• I am confident
• I do believe
• Positively
• I know
• All things are possible

“Do or do not, There is no try”- Yoda

Before your next big presentation, take the time to visualize the success you want to achieve. See the details in your mind, hear the words, and channel your energy to create success. See yourself making every free throw by asking the right questions;

• What’s the best way for me to be successful at this?
• How can I make the most of this situation?
• What options do I need to consider for a win-win?

The power of the answers you receive is directly proportionate to the power of the questions you ask. Consider how the questions you ask, both at work and at home, elicit certain responses. Ask yourself, “How can I ask questions to get the best from myself and others?”

Words are powerful, they can turbo-charge an event or take the wind from your sail. Choose wisely, and always think positively. The next time you’re asked, “How are you?” Respond with powerful, strength giving words such as; “Great!” or “Terrific!” It will be hard to do without a smile on your face and you’ll likely receive a smile from the questioner and leave them wondering to themselves, “I want to be more like him.” The power of your actions is preceded by the power of your thoughts and words. Choose to speak with strength and watch the power of your words bring out the best in yourself and others!
